Go Go Trains

August 2nd-22nd
Our final day on the Rogue River started with some awesome Trail Magic from a family that is floating in style. They invited us to feast on fresh fruit, egg scrambles, and sausage. It was an easy 3 1/2 miles to the car that was placed there by Affordable Shuttles. The three of us jumped in and headed for our new favorite coffee place, The Dutch Brothers, for a smoothie. Judy just wanted a cup of whip cream and a dog bone.
The evening was spent catching up with the Olympics before heading to our next stop Corvallis, OR. After arriving there, we quickly decided to beat the summer valley heat with a day trip to Newport, OR on the coast. Newport is a great town that brings together both fishing industry and tourism well. Not to get in the way of the fishermen, we headed to where the river meets the bay and decided to paddle board. About a mile into our trip we noticed a seal following us. Then another...and another. Before long we were surrounded by them. They were curious about us. I must say that they aren't as cute when they are popping up 5 feet from you. Judy couldn't take it anymore and jumped in to chase them. I screamed fearing for Judy's life while Shadow wrestled her back on the board for safety. After being escorted back to the dock we made our way back into town for some local seafood.
As the evening came we headed back to the valley, but not before making a detour to Nashville, OR. A 10 mile country road drive later we found the crossroads town complete with a country store with a dog laying on the front porch.
On a side note, the last few times we have grocery shopped the smell of peaches in the produce section has sucked us into buying a few. They look like peaches, smell like peaches, but after biting into them they are tasteless. We miss those messy, juicy Georgia peaches!
Our travels continued to our final destination of Cascade Locks, OR before I headed back to work. About 7 miles West of Hood River, our RV spot was clean, shady, and the 4 star review was spot on. That was until we sat down for dinner and heard the rumbles of an on coming train. Shadow and I looked at each other in disbelief when the sound of the engines horn came closer. I swear I could throw a rock to the tracks that were hidden behind a small strip of trees. How could someone give this place 5 stars! The trains were relentless throughout the night. This was the first time that I was actually ready to go back to work. Next stop is Seattle,WA.

Even Judy likes Dutch Brother's Coffee.
