I could write a book just on our first few days in Austria. Why Austria? Well, a few years ago we met a couple in Florida from there. Being that we plan to hike in Europe for 6-months, it was perfect timing to visit. Burkhard (Boogie) and Karin were waiting for us at the Munich airport and drove us to their house. Once we crossed into Austria, the mountains appeared and they were as beautiful as the photos from our Google search. They live in an amazing area with lots to do. Across the road is a ski slope that is used for Paragliding in the Summer. All day the sky is full of bright colors.
Our first day was spent hiking 15 miles through the local mountains, passing cabins and small restaurants. I, of course found a place to live within 3 hours of our hike. Lunch was at one of the restaurants we passed while hiking. It had an amazing view of the mountains and valley where our friends live. If hiking isn't your thing, a one lane winding road would lead you through small Summer homes, past dairy cows making peaceful songs with their cowbells, and piped springs full of clean drinking water. The locals dedicated one spring to a Catholic woman that helped others. It is said that drinking this water will heal your eyes.
The small towns are connected with bicycle trails and walkways. The next day we bicycled 6-miles to Boogie and Karin's cute off-grid cabin by a creek. The day was hot so we cooled off in the creek before having coffee and cake. This trip may turn me into a coffee drinker.
