October 1 Mile 2151-
Our departure was late from White House Landing due to the all you can eat blueberry pancake breakfast. Once arriving back on the trail the weather deteriorated. Rain began and temperatures dropped. There were no long relaxing breaks to eat or watch for wildlife. Days like today are some of the hardest. If you stop too long you begin to shiver and your muscles tighten. 15 miles was the mission and we made it in record time. Our one break of the day was when we passed a sign for trail magic. A gentleman had canoed there with a tent, chainsaw, and cooler. The group of us huddled under his tarp for relief.
Rainbow stream shelter was camp for the night. Shadow and I cooked in the shelter with the others and raced to our tent for warmth. That's one thing I will not miss out here. I hate being wet and cold. We jumped in the tent changed clothes and laid in our sleeping bags until we warmed up enough to feel human again. Shadow found that breathing into his sleeping bag made it warm up faster.
25 miles to the base of the big K. Life as we know it is about to change. The last 6 months has been an adventure to say the least and I can't wait to see what's next.
