Geranamo

April 12th
We awoke to another peaceful quiet morning in the Gila Wilderness.  The moon was bright and every star in the World was out last night.  Just before we had gone to bed in the rock cropping/cave I got out of the tent to “water the woods” and a bat swooped me twice.  I guess he didn’t think us camping in his house was too cool.  The last 12 miles of our hike was just as beauitful as the last few days.  Crossing the river many times and gawking at the cliffs and giant rock sculptures.
After lunch Judy started favoring her rear left leg.  Shadow took her backpack off and carried it for her.  She bit and picked at her foot during a break and the rest of the day she was great.  After one of our river crossings I looked up to see a beautiful cliff dwelling.  As we climbed the side of the cliff to go inside, I thought about what their lives must have been like.  The view down the river valley was amazing from their window opening.
About a 1/2 mile from the end of our hike we spotted some wild Javalena hogs on the river bank.  Shadow was disappointed that we never saw a bear or mountain loin, but I was just fine with seeing only deer and pigs.
It was a long 2 hour windy drive back to town where we passed the Continental Divide Trail that runs from the Mexico border to Canada.  We decided to hold out for dinner in Silver City and by the time we reached town we were starving.  One of the volunteers at Gila Wilderness told us about Jalisco Cafe so we stopped there. After two cold beers and the best Mexican food we have ever eaten, we were stuffed.
On the way home from dinner Shadow had a weak moment and ran through the McDonalds drive-thru.  He normally refused to give Judy table food but today was an exception.  Judy did an awesome job out on the trail and she had a blast.  We pulled up to microphone and she could smell the MickeyDs menu.  He ordered one hamburger and a small vanilla ice cream in a cup.  I pulled the burger out of the bag, opened the wax paper covering and sat it in the back with her.  She proceeded to eat the top part of the bun, then the burger, then the pickle, then the bottom part of the bun.  Next was the ice cream that I had set in the rear cup holder.  We were 2 miles from the RV and her head and tongue were busy the whole way.
