The made our way from Little Harbor to the Catalina Airport in the sky for lunch. A DC-3 still delivers supplies to the island. We were a few miles away from town when we decided to finish our hike. It was a combination of high temperatures, lack of water, and too rushed on time to catch the ferry home. A shuttle picked us up and brought us in to Avalon for the night.
The history behind the island is interesting. The Wrigley (yes chewing gum) family purchases the whole island minus the town of Avalon. Since then a conservancy has managed the property. There is a 26 year waiting list to have a full size vehicle on the island. With that being said all the vehicles in the one square mile town are small cars and golf carts. Which includes a miniature garbage truck, animal control vehicle, and a miniature tow truck. Most of the town is a tourist trap, but a nice way to end our hike.
