Time to lighten the load.

Day 7- Sunday, March 20th - It's been 7 days on the trail. We have hiked 61.3 miles. The weather has been great the last few days, but a cold front came through this morning. It's a perfect temperature to hike in, but cold when you stop to take a break. You don't want to stop for too long even on nice days due to rigormortis setting in. The wind has been howling over and around the mountains. Met up with Flute Walker for the last half of the day and played leap frog with JayJay from Pikeville. We decided to change his name to plumber because whether he is hiking, or sitting to eat his crack hangs out. I can't imagine what will happen after he loses some weight. We ended up with 10 miles today due to finding water and a flat spot to camp. It's so windy and cold that we can't keep a fire going. We choked down our crappy freeze dried dinner and jumped into the tent to say warm. No Kimchi bath tonight (sponge bath). Our soot covered hands, sticky duct taped feet, and bad BO bodies are looking forward to the Holiday Inn Express tomorrow! The topic of conversation with everyone today was food. What we were going to buy at our first grocery store to what we plan to order at the first restaurant. Our imaginations are going wild over what we can bring back on the trail instead of freeze dried sodium food.  Like crackers in a Pringles can so they don't crumble. Oh, or tortillas with cheese and summer sausage.  We could heat the the tortilla in the cookpot to melt the cheese...Grilled Cheese! With all that said we are having a blast and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Especially Las Vegas with a spa and room service that brings shrimp cocktail and Martinis with Hendricks Gin. We miss our relationships back home so please keep the texts and emails coming. Tuesday will be our first day off the trail to recuperate and we plan to start back on Wednesday morning.

Day 8- The weather passed and we awoke to the sunrise burning off the fog. During our 6 mile hike to the hitchhike road, our stomach's were growling for some real food. I joked that I would ride the 10 miles into town on in the back of a flat bed truck. Sure enough we arrived to a red truck with wooden cattle rails on the bed and a deer antler holding a bag of veggies. He charged the three of us (Flute Walker) $25 bucks to ride.  We piled in the back and took off. The $25 must have been the express package because he was passing cars and taking the turns like a wild man. He dropped us off and said he'd be back on Weds. morning. The location of the hotel was perfectly positioned to an all-you-can-eat buffet for $5.25. Saw a few fellow hikers there stuffing there face like us. We rolled out full as a ticks. Big day tomorrow. Hard decision will be made on what is being sent home due to weight. So long titanium cat hole digger. You will be missed.

I can't relate much to the no hot showers & no comfy bed to sleep in, but as for the make-do meals...
...I actually had my first bacon, eggs, toast, and hash-brown breakfast since being gone this morning. Talk about feeling fat, dumb, and happy!
