We waited till 8am for pancakes at Mrs. Clark Cafe. They were huge and the background music was Crosby, Still, & Nash. Shadow had his topped with grilled bananas and mine with bacon. We then rolled out of town toward the Mores Reserve. A short hike through and we were back on the beach. This it was on private land filled with sheep grazing along the rocky cliffs. We climbed and up and around the cliffs as the waves crashed. This section of the trail is closed between September and November for the lambing season. The trail them joined a gravel road that led us into Colac Bay. Another small beach town. This was another perfect surf bay with clear water. In the U.S. there would be high rise condos here with big houses. In NZ, it a field full of sheep. With only one tavern in town we stopped for an ice cream break before leaving the coast for a while. A 3 mile road walk to join the Longwood forest past a deer farm. That's right. They raise deer like cattle here. At the beginning of the forest were two other hikers taking a break. They were a couple from Austria. They were finishing their 2 month South Island hike. It was great to finally see another hiker. We of course exchanged information about what was to come like terrain and water sources. After saying our goodbyes we continued another mile before finding a flat spot to camp.
