Trieste, Italy

Today we toured the city of Trieste.  Wandering aimlessly up and down streets while hitting the touristy spots.  Lots of old buildings.  To quote a saying from our friends Becky and Kelly, "You see one glacier, you've seen them all."  I'm just kidding of course, but the history is overwhelming.
During our lunchtime gelato and coffee my parents called to check in.  While I spoke with them, Shadow was approached by a guy with a long complicated story.  Lost passport.  No clothes.  No place to stay.  Unfortunately he choose the wrong tourist.  Shadow explained to him that we had no place to stay and no clothes either.  We live in a tent and had no car.  I guess there really is a fine line between a hiker and a homeless person.  Although this guy had a newer shirt than us and a well trimmed beard.
Our tour of Trieste quickly turned into an episode of The Amazing Race. Again.  We repurposed a stereo box to ship extra hiking supplies to the Croatia/Bosnia border.  We made it to the Italian post office with an address and the box.  I walked up to one of the windows and was told to take a number and come back.  I did and another window called my number.  Then, we were told to tape the box so we left and found a place that sold shipping tape.  We bought clear tape, taped the box, then came back.  Wrong.  We needed to wrap the box so that there is no writing on the box other than the address.  Went back to the store.  Bought paper, went to the hotel, and wrapped the box.  The package itself seemed very confusing to the postal worker.  I don't think very many people ship boxes around here.  This made us more than a little concerned.  It also concerned  us that after the package left Milan, Italy, we could not track it.  Tried to google a UPS style shipping store, but nothing close by.  Asked the hotel front desk and she found a shipping place for us.  Sure enough we navigated the street and found the shop.  Inside was a little piece of home, the UPS sign.  Awe...
