We caught a bus from the seaside village of Senj and jumped off back at the pass. The driver couldn't get the bus in 2nd or 3rd gear so I don't think it will be running for much longer.
We climbed above tree line in time for lunch. A nice view back down to the Adriatic. Croatia is full of little islands and peninsulas. We got up from our lunch break and started walking. The trail has been nice so far which was a change. Shadow noticed that we had not seen a marker and checked the GPS. We were a little off but that's pretty normal for this trail. Then our trail stopped. We obviously missed a turn after lunch. Damnit! We choose to cross country hike down the hill until we found it. Just when the trail is nice to us, we mess it up. We pass by a few old hamlets. Ruins of stone homes, barns, and fences. A well we passed is dated 1905. A stone fence leads us out and follows us to the next town of Oltari. There's another old school house that the local hiking club maintain. It's in much better condition than the last one. We stop for water and speak with a guy that has mounted a weed eater engine on the back of his bike. The mount for it is made in the US. We spoke about the upcoming trail in the National Park. There is not camping in the park. We pressed on down the trail and found a nice meadow for the evening. It's a little early to stop, but neither of us wants to push it to the next hut. It's Friday and I'm sure it's packed.
