*Trail notes at bottom of post.
We left Fuzine this morning with our minds focused on the next 54 miles. Shadow said he was mentally preparing his mind last night. These next miles are a mix between the unknown and the known. The known sections are rugged and demanding so we have planned enough for for 5 days hoping for 10 miles a day at the least.
Our first day went fairly smoothly. The trail was rough and overgrown in most spots but we managed to hike 16 miles, so not too bad. Our first hut of the day was just before lunch. The building itself wasn't in bad shape, but people leaving trash around sucked. 2 guys were there and they introduced us to our first Puh. What is a Puh? Well, technically it's a Croatia Dormouse. About the size of a squirrel and looks like a miniature Australian Opossum. Cute, but they freak me out when they move fast in the dark hut. And they poop on everything. Yuck. I know this won't be the last Puh I meet.
The afternoon was spent bushwhacking from trail to logging road and back. We made it to our destination of Tuk. The small town is the gateway to Bijele Stijene, a famous hiking/bouldering area. The hut in town is the place to be. With a bar and dinner served nightly, you get a mix of locals and hikers. I still have no voice so Shadow has to do most of the talking. The owners son speaks English very well. We had planned to camp around back but for 15Euros a piece we got a bed and dinner. At 7pm on the dot the owners served an all you can eat bean and sausage stew that was great. Shadow found a Croatian beer he liked and life was good.
Plotting the next stages.
