Another Pigeon Sighting

With a few days left before work starts we decided to take a side trip to Seward.  It’s a small town in the Fjords on the Southeast coast of the Kenai Peninsula.  The drive from Anchorage this morning was spectacular.  We stopped to hike along side the Turnagan Arm with the famous Bore Tide.  Surfers love to catch the wave that can be 6 feet high and travels for 5 miles.  From there we sidled the the river along a railroad track to a wildlife preserve.  They rescue injured animals, rehabilitate them, try to release them back into the wild.  They mostly had bison and caribou, but also had 2 moose, 3 grizzly bears, and one black bear.  The last 20 miles to Seward was a beautiful glacial blue lake and jagged snowy mountains.  Shadow pulled off to fish in one of the lakes.  I looked up to see two bald eagles flying over head.
The town of Seward has a large rv park right on the water with a greenway into town.  When I say right on the water, I mean that Large Marge is parked about 20feet from the water.  As I’m writing this, my feet are propped on Marge’s dash sitting in the passenger seat watching two seals swim.  Others campers have built fire pits with rocks from the shore and are staying warm while enjoying the views and the midnight sun.  All this for 15 bucks a night!  As if this day couldn’t get any better, we spotted a humpback whale and a sea otter walking to dinner.  Shadow ran into Pigeon.  She is a lady we met hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2011 and works seasonally  in Denali.  This year she brought her daughter and her boyfriend.  We met them yesterday for lunch in downtown Anchorage.  They had just come back from a 4 hour whale watching tour.  With lots of hiking to do, I think we may be staying here a few more nights.
