Last night we relaxed at the Waipu hotel/pub/restaurant plotting our next few days. Yesterday we talked to a guy about kiteboarding. He said we would pass a place today that sold them. After another beautiful beach walk we arrived at Sprocket Boards in Taukaka. He makes kite boards from New Zealand trees. After a quick try with one of the training kites we were sold and bought one to keep us busy during the beach walks. Not to say the beach walks are boring my any means. Each are different. The one this morning was. Full of clam shells and the one this afternoon was littered with sand dollars. In the States people go crazy for sand dollars and here they walk right by them like its no big deal. I was picking as many as I could up and inspecting them before throwing them back into the Pacific.
After lunch we continued to the Whangarei Harbour where our trail stops. This is becoming a normal occurrence. The trail stops and we have to figure out how to get across the harbour to restart the trail. Luckily we found 3 people that agreed to take us and even pointed out a great spot to camp for the night. We of course enjoyed the ride and the views, but our main mission was to fly our new kite. Shadow and I took turns flying until dusk then rushed to set up camp and eat. Someone had told us that the views, beaches, and water keeps getting better the farther North we go and so far they are right.
