While touring the small village of Russell we met couple from Pennsylvania with a son living in Nashville. That evening we ran into each other again and decided to have dinner together at the local fishing club.
The four of us met up at a town just North on the mainland where the Maori and British signed a peace treaty. We of course paid the extra ten bucks for the full cultural experience. They acted out the traditional greeting where they would find out if you had arrived for peace or war. With wide eyes, tongues hanging, and spears flying it was intimidating. After accepting a peace branch we entered their building. Inside had a column carved by each tribe in New Zealand. Shadow was hoping for a Maori greeting where they rub noses like and Eskimo Kiss, but no luck.
