Up on Cripple Creek

June 3rd- We headed out from the Dutch Haus once again with full bellies and a good nights sleep. Our first stop of the day was Spy Rock. It was a 360 view once you scrambled to the top, but below the rock was a meadow that I swear I would not be surprised if I had seen a fairy floating by. The Rhodendrums were blooming, the grass was tall and as green as ever. This vision I just describe will come back to haunt us later today.
Most of the day was full of reflecting. Curious about what sent California home and if it would get one of us next. Statistically 20% make the whole 2,181 mile hike so with that being said, chances are two out of the three of us will drop out.
Had lunch on a great overlook and passed Cripple Creek in the afternoon. We made it 12 miles to a shelter by 4pm and decided to keep going. With a 3,000 foot ascent and 6.2 miles to the next shelter we decided to take our chances in hopes of finding a unmarked campsite. We all took an additional 2 liters of water and headed out for a night of stealth camping. After finding a half decent spot 2/3 of the way up, we reminded our selves that every time we take the first place we see, there's always a more perfect one right around the corner. I stupidly say, "What if there is fairy land up top like Spy Rock?" Shadow and Flute agreed and we continued to the top. Unfortunately greed got in the way of a great day. We suffered thru the rest of the climb and found a decent place with a gorgeous view for our dinner.
Got in touch with California and planned a going away dinner on Sunday night with him.
