4am- The logging trucks started again. I forgot to mention it yesterday. Our "quiet" gravel road detour was interrupted by a consistent stream of logging trucks. Many roads in New Zealand are gravel and they fly on them leaving a long contour line of dust. Dust that we breath in. Last night, before we stopped, a truck with six logging guys stopped to chat. Today they were nice enough to slow down when they passed us. This morning we found a hole in our tent. There are few trees for hanging and no dangerous animals to eat it so our food is in the tent at night. Usually by our feet. Our assumption is that one night a rabbit or ferret or opossum or mouse chewed a hole the size of a quarter through it. Looks like more field repair.
Our hike into Lake Tekapo was faster than we planned, but no complaints. A good lunch, shopped for food at the 4 Square (grocery), and grabbed 3 meat pies for dinner (Steak and mushroom, chicken, and vegetarian). In 3 hours we were back on the trail...or should I say gravel road. Shadow counted that we have been walking gravel roads for the last 70 miles. It's nice to stretch your legs and pick up speed, but we are ready to get back to work. Based on the summary for the Two Thumbs Track, I think we will be begging for some road walking.

Logging truck is coming...
