River Rats

January 30th - Day 22
This evening Shadow and I are dipping oatmeal cookies into hot MILO (sort of like hot chocolate) on Shania Twains front porch...sort of. She owns a station (ranch) about 50yards from Rose's Hut. We walk through her property tomorrow.
Today we started just outside of Arrowtown (one of our favorite towns) and made our way through MaceTown, a gold mining ghost town. A few ruins and lots of rock piles are the the only thing left, but at one time there were over 200 people living there. It was there that we headed up a narrow valley following the Arrow River. The landscape here is similar the the California gold rush hills off Route 49, but much taller. We crossed the river numerous times for about 3 miles before climbing steeply to 3,800ft. We didn't care about getting our feet wet. It was hot. Today was our first official alpine walk with another tomorrow. No rocky exposed ledges yet. Just bald mountains with brown and green grass.
Shadow found these bakery items called Kisses, but they look like mini whoopie pies. My favorite are the ginger one with maple being runner up.
