Men and Boys

January 25th - Day 17
It seems that I have given Shadow my illness. For the past week and a half I have been battling a cold or maybe TB from a family sitting beside us on the SouthWest flight to San Fran (just kidding about the TB). We woke up and flew the 8 miles to our road to town.
The Te Araroa is technically finished, but not totally complete. For example, today we finished on NorthWest side of Lake Wakatipu. The trail stops here and restarts 80miles away in Queenstown (Central East side of the lake). We were fortunate to get a ride from a father with 4 boys. We strapped our backpacks to the roof of his Land Cruiser and off we went. 25 miles of gravel roads with 4 fording, then 60 around the most beautiful turquoise water. For a repayment we purchased everyone Ferg Burgers, a local favorite with burgers as big as your face and a line out the door.
Our beacon will be here on Tuesday so until then we can rest and tour the upscale Lake Tahoe style town.
