Heatwave!

Day 28- It was the best of times and the worst of times. We completed the Smokies. In 6 days the mountains sucked us in, chewed us up, and spit us out. We hiked through howling winds, frost, hail, thunderstorms, rain, snow, fog, and even got two sunburns! Oh yeah and food poisoning. Our last day led us to Mt. Cammerna with a great view on a 1939 stone lookout that resembles a lighthouse. Afterward we hiked to Standing Bear Hostel...interesting place to say the least. It is in a holler off I-40 in Davenport, TN. The laundry room consist of a tub with a washboard and old school clothes ringer. Great resupply place thats all on the honor system. The day was hot and we had a "hiker down" moment when we lost Flute due to the heat about a half mile from the hostel. Can't wait for tomorrow. It's going to be a hard 13 miles back into the mtns. That's code for 9 miles uphill! The hike will be worth it. I've been looking forward to this spot for over 200 miles. It's Max Patch, NC. A great place for sunsets, stars, and sunrises. Plus it was the first time I set foot on the AT.  BJ took me there and I fell in love.
