Fish don't fry in the kitchen

Beans don't burn on the grill

Took a whole lotta tryin'

Just to get up that hill

Now we're up in the big leagues

I write you this evening laying in the bed of a 4 star hotel in Tri Cities. Yes, there is one. Our friends Becky and Kelly were nice enough to pick us up in the metropolis of Mars Hill, NC and take us away for a great few days off the trail. BJ and I jumped on the scale when we got to the hotel and as typical, he lost 20lbs and I lost 5lbs! Technically, I just lost the 5 that I gained from our going away parties.

Any who, we had a nice 11.5 mile hike to Sams Gap following old country roads and fence rows that were growing into the trees. The trail made it's way through this beautiful hollow with a waterfall and remnants of 3 log homes.

I've been meaning to tell you about this group we have been leap frogging with while visiting off the trail. BJ thinks they are homeless, correction, BJ thinks the trail is their home. Nice people, but odd. For example, one calls himself Dirt Bag, oops, that's what I call him. His name is Dirt Nap. He is hiking barefoot (yes, by choice), drinks cowboy coffee (boiling water with coffee grounds) before bed, rolls his own smokes, stinks worst than we do, and last we saw he carried 2 plastic grocery bags 9 miles full of food including a bottle of Ranch dressing. Weird, but nice people.
