Another Brick on the Wall

May 4&5 - Our day started with BJ making us blueberry pancakes and headed 8.5 miles after lunch. My new expensive shoes must have included teeth because they chewed my feet up! After feeling sorry for myself that evening, we made a plan to deviate 4 miles North of where we spent the night and call a shuttle back to Damascus. I tried on every shoe on in town and found another pair. Flute joined us on our journey back to town. She never passes up an off day, plus she found a pair of shoes too. Heading out in the morning for another try. Our next stop is Marion,VA in 4 days then Pearisburg, and the Virginia border 6 days later.
Anyone that says the AT is easy North of the Smokies is lying! The only day we have had that was relatively easy was the 30 miles South of Damascus.
On a side note I wanted to start listing our equipment we carry for others that may be interested. First off is our stove. Because we are traveling as a pair, we are using MSR Whisper Light Int'l with Pinnacle Dualist cook set. For a single camper, you can't beat the light weight alcohol stove. The down side to the alcohol stove is that some do not have a way to simmer your food. An advantage is that you can find fuel anywhere. Some are using stoves with compressed gas canisters. The problem with those is that you don't know when you are out of fuel, until your out of fuel. Our tent is an MSR Hubba Hubba HP. It was expensive, but we couldn't ask for anything better. Flute, our ultra-light genius, uses an Zpac Tent that weight 13ozs!!! Ours is just shy of 4lbs.

Put mole skin on all your hot spots and make sure you are using a good sock system! Your boots should be 1/2 size larger than your normal size so you can wear 2-3 pair of socks while hiking! You need to wear a thin layer next to your skin and thicker layers next to your boots. I am a blister expert!!!! DZ
