A Country Boy Can Survive

May 14- After a fair night of sleep in the shelter, we headed out for a 15 mile day with two treats. The 600 mile mark came and went plus we had lunch at Trent's Grocery, a country store with a small deli. It's a half mile off the trail, across the street from a lumber yard, and 2 miles from a state prison. The four of us ordered lunch and drooled over what snacks to buy. Little Debbies, Moon Pies, Cow Tales, ZagNut candy bars, everything looked good. When lunch was ready, we took a seat at one of the three tables available. Our table was beside the large metal animal traps, "Co Cain" animal spray, and deer pee in a bottle. We had 8 miles left for the day and decided a sub sandwich and Little Debbie fruit pies for dinner would be just right. What should have been an easy hike to the next shelter seemed to drag on way too long. Our legs were tired from yesterday's extended hike, which by the way turned out to be 19.7 miles including the half mile to the lunch shelter. Our sugar was low from the spike in 3 sodas we drank  for 39 cents each. Tonight we arrived at Wapiti shelter in time to eat and setup camp before it started raining. Just when I thought I had mastered the art of walking across creeks via a log, my right foot slipped and into the water it went. Wet shoes again tonight...
