Horse with No Name

May 13th- Up until 2.8 miles ago my post had planned out to be totally different. Slept like a baby last night by the creek. Headed out for another long 16+ day. Everyone checked the map the night before to come up with a plan. Water has been scarce lately and today was no exception. When the morning came, we all were worn out from the day before. California was being sucked into the "The Town Vortex". That's when you cross a road that leads to a town that you plan to pass up, but food and a dry place to sleep sucks you in. The plan was to not wait for him if he hadn't shown up by lunch. We were all surprised when lunch time came and we had already hike 9 miles (most of the time we are lucky to get 7 in before lunch). The trail was easy (not technical) and the hills were rolling. Mile 15.7 came and we had timed our water perfectly to plan. It was 5:15pm (normally we get to camp around 6:30pm). The last .3 was a piece of cake. As we scouted out our camping spot, we crossed what looked to be a dried creek bed. It couldn't be ours...could it? Turns out it was. Our hearts sank.  After looking at the map and seeing the next water was in 2.8 miles away at Jenny Knob Shelter , the walk was quiet amongst the four of us. The sky turned dark like the movies. Thunder was heard in the distance heading our way. We ended the last half mile in a all out run to the shelter with another couple and beat the rain by 30 seconds. We all laid in the shelter, too tired to make camp, watched the storm come and go.
