August 6 Miles 1565-
11PM was the last time I looked at my watch. It seems as though our teenyboppers had a great time around the campfire last night. It was hard to get up this morning and no one was very happy about the noise. I'm glad we tented. 2 other thru hikers stayed in the shelter, which was right by the campfire. Today's 16.2 miles was hiked in a zombie-like state. The trail took us through Dalton, MA so we decided an early dinner was a great idea since they were calling for rain this evening. Neither one of us thought we were very hungry until we almost took a finger off while eating our burger.
Made it to Crystal Mountain campsite as the sprinkles came down. Massachusetts' highest point tomorrow. Our guide says there is a lodge on top with a restaurant!
In reading the shelter logs recently you can tell what motivates people out here...FOOD! That what everyone talks about. For example, "The Cookie Lady", she runs a blueberries stand and bakes cookies for hikers that pass by and "Birdcage" is a place that has cheap beer and food.
The other night we noticed that our tent is starting to look like a war zone. The continual massacre of mosquitos inside the tent has blood smear spots. At one point our tent was white, but now it's a form of tie-dye. We have been here long enough to know the difference in sound of a gnat versus a mosquito as it dive bombs your ears. A gnat has a lower pitch.
Cozy and dry tonight as the rain comes down.

Hi Guys,
Glad to see you're still on the trail and doing well. At some point I'll have to start at the beginning and see how your hike went. It's always interesting reading other hikers journals on the days your hike overlapped to see their take on it. I'm flying out to MI to meet up with Greenstone and Thimbleberry to do a 5 day trip in the Picture Rocks area near where they live and in a couple of weeks I'll be meeting up with Flame up north. She is in VT at just over 1700 miles. Hope to see you both out there!

P.S. Sad to hear Flute had to get off the trail, but I understand how that is.
Thanks for the update. Please tell G&T we said hey and have fun with Flame. She's flying!
