September 1 Mile 1827-
353 miles to go
The struggle and determination it took to hike this far has been rewarded by breath taking views. We have been fortunate to have had good weather the last 3 days, but Saturday is calling for rain. Our fingers are crossed that it holds out. That is our full day above tree line. For most of you this time of the year is a battle of hot temperatures, but here we could have snow. The morning temperature of Mt. Washington a few days back was 37 degrees with a wind of 67 miles an hour.
To clarify what I said in the last post, we are carrying less food than we need because the huts will let you buy soup and baked items during the day without working. It's a win-win because they don't have to hike down the extra food if we eat it.
Today was our 3rd 12 hour day with 5 more before a day off in MAINE! I remember the good old days when we could hike 17 miles by 5pm. Now we leave at 7am and hike till 7pm just to squeak out 12 miles.
