R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.

July 15 Mile 1285-
Last night we were laying in the tent around dusk and heard an owl hoot a few times. His last call had a response by another owl. It had been a few months since we had heard two exchange calls. I'm not sure if it was mating conversation or a territorial one, but they sound like monkeys. It's hard to tell in the wild. I poked my head out of the tent just in time to see the one fly over. I don't see how he can fly that fast through the trees and be so quiet.
Our last day of PA brought nothing different. The grapevine says that the first 20 miles in New Jersey are about the same. At any rate just beginning tomorrow in a new state is a huge boost.
After 5 days of very little water and high temperatures, we decided to make a quick stay at a roach motel. We needed a shower and some clean clothes since we are down to one outfit a piece. The Village Bakery had a great deal going. A hotdog and a slice of pie for $2.49. I added my newest town craving of a root beer float and Shadow had his milkshake. The bakery was a dream. Full of homemade pies and desserts that perfumed the building. Part of what we love while being in town is the people we meet along the way. 6 ladies from the Jersey shore were in town for a rafting trip down the Delaware river. After a great conversation with them we headed out to scavenge food for the next few days at the 2 gas stations in town. Our motel for the evening had no laundry services so as much as I hate to admit was we did, I will. We filled the bath tub full of hot water and the camp soap we had left and...did laundry. We took turns agitating the clothes, then refilling the water. Currently they are hanging out on the patio railing to dry over night. It's safe to say we have reach a new low. 3 mores day till our next day off at High Point State Park.
