Run for the Roses

July 4 Mile 1138- A rocky 4 miles brought us to the town of Duncannon, PA. We hit High St. and Broadway just as Shadow's Dad (the original Shadow) and Annie pulled up. The timing was perfect. We rode to the hotel in a stylish Cadillac. Annie kept the window cracked the whole way to cut our stench. James (Shadow's brother) and Jill met us at the hotel. Lucky for them we had showered and changed clothes. First stop was the all-u-can-eat buffet at the Hollywood Casino. It was the biggest buffet I have ever seen. I went in with a strategy to save room for the chocolate fountain. Shadow went full force leaving just enough room for the dessert bar twice. Flute wasted very little time with the main course and headed for the ice cream, although she did manage to eat a chili dog that hurt her belly later. We rolled out of the buffet and the original Shadow gave us a tour of the Casino and the Penn National race track. By 4pm we were placing bets for the first horse race. Each of us armed with our own way to pick the winner.  Halfway through the races Shadow ran out of money, and the original Shadow was up 800 bucks. It was a great day to be out on the track and off the trail. All in all I ended up winning $65, but lost it playing penny slots on the way out the door.
